JOB SECURITY!!!

Is my typical response! It may ruffle some feathers but that’s not my concern. The truth is “cracking” your own spine is job security for all chiropractors in Cocoa Beach FL. Plain and simply put you create damage to your spine in the long run.

We can get into all the technicalities but for this post I will make it simple.

Keeping Your Spine Elastic in Cocoa Beach FL

Take the rubber band above for example. When you pull it back and let go it will “snap” back in recoil and that is called elasticity. It stretches and comes back to its original state. It’s flexible and responsive to the stretch. Just like your ligaments should be in your spine when they are healthy.

Now if you keep that rubber band stretched out too far for too long what happens to it?

It becomes weak and brittle. It won’t recoil. It will lose its elasticity. This is not good for the rubber band, especially if you are holding a bunch of pens together with it.

When we think of our spine this way let’s look at the image below.

Chiropractic Cocoa Beach FL Whiteboard Diagram

In chiropractic, we are looking for the segments in the spine that are restricted (picture on the far left) and causing nerve interference, otherwise called a vertebral subluxation. That subluxation fixates or locks up the joint and for this post we will forgo the nerve interference portion…more on that later.

Leave it to a Professional

When you “crack” your own back or neck, as in the middle image, you don’t and can’t undo the fixation or unlock the joint or restriction in your own spine. Chiropractors call it, limitations of matter, more on that later as well. But what does happen is that you start overstretching the ligaments that hold the joint together, like a rubber band being overstretched. This is where the damage begins. Yes, you get a “crack” or a “pop” out of the joint and it feels better for a while. Then you have to do it again and again in another two or three hours and the overstretching continues and the fixated joint /subluxation is never really corrected or unlocked. Now the long-term damage continues, day in and day out, a “crack” here a “pop” there, UNTIL …

It really locks up and you don’t and can’t relieve it yourself. Chiropractors' job security…

Chiropractors Can Help If You Need an Adjustment

Chiropractors, like myself, look for that restriction, that locked up joint and give a chiropractic adjustment which in short restores some normal movement and creates better nerve function allowing your nervous system to function better which in turn helps you function better overall. Multiple visits may be needed to restore normal function and allow normal healing.

In conclusion, QUIT “CRACKING” YOUR OWN NECK AND BACK.
